Edmund Yeo’s award winning feature ‘Aqerat ‘(We The Dead) about a woman juggling odd jobs at the Thai-Malaysian border to survive by earning quick money as a human trafficker has been officially selected to be featured as closing film at 3rd Tingin ASEAN Film Festival which runs from Sept. 26 to 28 at Shangri-La Plaza Mall Red Carpet Cinema in Philippines. Showcasing 10 feature films from participating ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia by The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), together with the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) and the Shangri-la Plaza Red Carpet Cinema, this awaited festival celebrates the growing collaboration, diversity, cinematic landscape and rampat issues highlighted in ASEAN films. Previously honored as Best Film at the 2018 15th Bologna Asian Film Festival in Italy, ‘Aqerat’ which stars Daphne Low and Howard Hon Kahoe also won Best Director (Edmund Yeo) and Tokyo Gemstone Award for Daphne Low at 30th Tokyo International Film Festival in 2017 as well as the Geber Award at 13th Jogja NETPAC Asian Film Festival in Indonesia.
