Kuala Lumpur, 2 July – SeaShorts Pre-Festival Screening featuring Malaysian short film ‘RM10’ by Emir Ezwan, Thailand’s ‘Fat Boy Never Slim’ by Sorayos Prapapan, Philippines’ ‘Arnie’ by Rina B. Tsou, and Singapore’s ‘The Tiger of 142B’ by Harry and Henry Zhuang were screened today at University of Nottingham (KLTC) Chulan Tower, Kuala Lumpur. Organised by Next New Wave, SeaShorts Pre-Festival Screening is an introductory event prior to the 2nd Southeast Asian Short (SeaShorts) Film Festival 2018 which starts officially on August 1st – 5th 2018 in conjunction and in partnership with George Town Festival.
Launched in May 2017 to celebrate the voices of aspiring filmmakers while embracing into cinematic excellence of short films, SeaShorts 2018 will feature
120 short films from Malaysia and South East Asian region which includes student films by award winning filmmakers; Lav Diaz, Dain Said, Anthony Chen, Liew Seng Tat, Garin Nugroho, Edwin, Sherad Anthony Sanchez, and Aditya Assarat.
While SeaShorts Competition recognizes the most promising filmmaker competing for Purin Pictures’ Purin Award worth USD2,500, Next New Wave Competition has become another significant platform in the festival with the aim to nurture young and emerging filmmakers in Malaysia
There will be fun programs and a campaign call ‘Ayuh BerSeaShort’ that provides a moving shuttle bus from Kuala Lumpur to Georgetown, Penang with special programmes on the bus designed for the goers such as ‘Confession of A Programmer’, ‘What is Short Films to You’ Short Film Challenge, ‘Favourite Southeast Asian Song List’, and ‘Special Edition of SeaShorts 2018 Introduction Video’.
